Prof. Panagiotis Demestichas received the Diploma and the Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). He is Professor (since April 2012) and the Chairman (since September 2011) of the Department of Digital Systems of the University of Piraeus. He joined the University of Piraeus in September 2002 as Assistant Professor and became an Associate Professor in December 2007. He has over 20 years of experience in R&D in the fields of wireless/mobile broadband networks, fixed-mobile broadband convergence, Internet technologies, network planning and management, autonomic computing, SDN, NFV, big data, cloud platforms, smart grids, smart cities, software engineering, algorithms and complexity theory, queuing theory simulation. He has several publications in these areas in international journals and refereed conferences. At the European level, he has been actively involved in (and coordinated) a number of international research and development programs in the context of the RACE II, ACTS, BRITE/EURAM, EURET, IST/FP5, IST/FP6, ICT/FP7. He has also been involved in several bilateral collaborations with international and national industrial entities and public organizations. In terms of standardization, he has contributed to various standardization bodies such as ETSI, IEEE, ITU, IETF/IRTF. He is also chairing Working Group C (WGC) of WWRF and is an advisor of NGMN. He is a senior member of the IEEE, member of ACM and the Technical Chamber of Greece.
